Households may have more than one type of broadband connection. In 2009 and 2012 broadband via cable was only available in the Kapiti, Wellington, and Christchurch regions. Other includes fixed wireless, other broadband, fibre, and Woosh wireless. Rural centres are area units with a population between 300 and 999. Rural areas are area units with a population of less than 300. Main urban areas have a population of 30,000 or more. Secondary urban areas have a population between 10,000 and 29,999. Minor urban areas have a population between 1,000 and 9,999. This breakdown was collected for the first time in 2012. Note: All numbers in this table have been rounded to the nearest 1,000. Due to rounding, figures may not add to the stated totals. Source has provided reasons for missing data:revised figure not available suppressed (please refer to the 'Data quality' section for more information)
