How it works

Figure.NZ sources data from other organisations, including corporations, public repositories, government departments and academics.

We import that data into a powerful open source database, we carefully validate it and standardise it. We then make the data available in a series of standardised forms, both human and machine-readable, with rich metadata about the sources, licensing and datatypes.

We have built a chart designer to make simple bar, line and area graphs from any data source we have available, and this tool will be made available to the public so anyone can create graphs from the data on Figure.NZ. Graphs can be referred to directly on our site, or exported in a variety of formats for print or online use. Please refer to our terms of use.

We maintain a complete audit trail for all data we hold, down to the individual cell, and we do not hold any personal or unit record data.
