United Kingdom: United Kingdom + England + Wales + Scotland + Northern Ireland + Channel Islands + Island of Jersey + Jersey + Guernsey + Great Britain
Samoa: Samoa + Western Samoa
China (including Hong Kong and Macau): China + Tibet + Inner Mongolia + Hong Kong + Macau + Macao
Vietnam: Vietnam + North Vietnam + South Vietnam
Ireland: Ireland + Republic of Ireland
South Korea: Korea + Republic of Korea + South Korea
United States of America: United States of America + U.S.A.
Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka + Ceylon
Germany: Germany + West Germany + Federal Republic of Germany + East Germany + Democratic Republic of Germany
The country of birth is as indicated by the applicant. If a country has changed name (for example, Burma vs Myanmar) it is reported separately for each name change. Figure.NZ has partially resolved this issue by manually calculating totals for select countries.
Exclusions
This data excludes new citizenships by descent granted to those born overseas to a New Zealand citizen. In 2018, there were 13,691.
