Progression to tertiary education one year after leaving school in the Manawatū-Whanganui Region, New Zealand

Ethnicity is multiple response, that is, students who affiliated in more than one ethnic group have been counted in each ethnic group. Students are only counted once in the total, therefore, the ethnic groups may not sum to the total.
The year indicates the year when the student left school.
The region refers to the area where the student attended school.

International fee-paying students are excluded. Alternative education students are included in National totals, but, not in the school they are funded from.

To find specific regional data, select the region of your choice, then select Progression to Tertiary > Institution Type > Table 1.
The Ministry provided Figure.NZ with a raw extract of all regions in January 2025.

This data shows the progression to tertiary education, which is a measure of the level of tertiary education a student is enrolled in one year after leaving school.

School leavers are identified from the Ministry of Education’s ENROL system, while tertiary enrolment information is sourced from the tertiary databases SDR and ITR.
