Historical and projected population in the Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board Area, Auckland, New Zealand
By age group, 1981–2043 estimated, 2018–2043 projected
Definitions
Historical births: Live births to mothers resident in the area by year of registration.
Historical deaths: Deaths of people resident in the area by year of registration.
Projected births: Projected annual average live births occurring in each five-year period from medium projection of Subnational Population Projections, 2013(base)–2043, published February 2015.
Projected deaths: Projected annual average deaths occurring in each 5-year period from medium projection of Subnational Population Projections, 2013(base)–2043, published February 2015.
Net migration: Estimated by subtracting estimate natural increase (births minus deaths) from estimated population change for each period. Projected data from Subnational Population projections, 2013(base)–2043, published February 2015. Net migration includes external or international migration (movement between countries) and internal migration (movement between areas of New Zealand).
Estimated resident population: The estimated resident population is higher than the census usually resident population count because the estimates make an allowance for net census undercount and residents who are temporarily overseas at the time of the census. They also have a different reference date – 5 March for the 2013 Census and 30 June for population estimates.
Assumptions made about future migration are not simple extrapolations of historical trends. For example, in some areas the population is insufficient to sustain net migration losses similar to the past, so smaller net migration outflows are assumed in the future.
