From the dataset Canterbury Water Quality Monitoring for Contact Recreation: Monitored sites in the Timaru District 2015-2016 season (f), this data was extracted:
Lakes, rivers and coastal bays and beaches are used by many people, particularly in the summer months, for swimming and other water based recreational activities. The water
quality at the sites can influence human health and therefore microbial water quality and cyanobacteria monitoring is undertaken at high use sites. This monitoring is carried out over the summer months to provide information on the health risk from contact recreation, i.e.
suitability of sites for recreation. The data collected along with the grading of sites and warning information allows people to make informed decisions about where, when and how to use the sea, lakes and rivers for swimming and other recreational activities.
Method of collection/Data provider
The quantity of cyanobacteria at river sites is assessed weekly at the microbial water quality sites and at sites known to have blooms.
